About Ian

As a coach, I don't give you simple answers, rather I help you explore important questions and design a new future in some area of your life (which might be your leadership or business). You get to develop for yourself new ways of observing the world, new ways of acting in the world, and new ways of being.  Futures that seemed impossible become possible, and futures that seemed unlikely become probable.

My skills in coaching for leadership, collaboration and productivity are underpinned by 15 years of experience building and developing teams as a business leader and senior executive. I understand first-hand the value of coaching to develop leadership capability and to expand a person's sense of who they are as a leader and what it is possible for them to do. When I started my software company (www.echoview.com) I had poor people skills and was anxious speaking in groups. Through coaching, I developed as a leader and learned that leadership and public speaking really are learnable.

I am an ICF Professional Credentialed Coach (PCC). I have a Graduate Diploma in Ontological Coaching from the Newfield Institute in Melbourne and have studied Generative Leadership with Bob Dunham, Chauncey Bell, Fernando Flores, Humberto Maturana and others.

I have individually coached more than 60 SES officers and trained or coached over 500 EL and APS level staff in the Australian Public Service and ACT Public Service. I have also had the privilege of coaching principals or training leadership teams in 18 ACT Public Schools and have worked with executives in the ACT, Victorian and NSW Education Departments.

I was born in Hobart, Tasmania and spent most of my life on the island.  I live in Melbourne with my partner and stepdaughter and regularly return to Hobart to see the rest of my family and longtime friends.

I love coaching and the opportunity it provides to work with individuals and organisations as they expand what is possible for them, take new actions and produce (sometimes unprecedented) new results. Being with another person as they generate a new perspective on a situation and see new possibilities for their living is a privilege and a thrill for me.

In my spare time, I love to go snow skiing and bushwalking and hang out with my family.
