using a previous experience
If someone has a previous experience of hypnosis, we can simply ask them to recall their previous experience, and encourage focus and absorption and comment as always on the expected physiological changes [ratifying them].
The very first day I met Erickson, there was a psychologist there also who had visited the previous day. Erickson simply asked him to show me what had happened that previous day, and to my amazement, he drifted into a delightful trance without any additional input from Erickson. By recalling his experience, he also recalled it in totality and re-experienced it naturally and easily.
This make perfect sense to me now, but at the time, when I was expecting a traditional "induction" I was perplexed.
If someone is a meditator, we can invite them to begin to meditate and allow our voice to become part of there meditation.
If someone has some previous experience of guided imagery or relaxation, we can simply invite them to recall whatever that experience was ... and ... off we go!
In this video, we can see how easily the client re-experiences her meditation and relaxation and readily becomes focused and absorbed in her experience ... easy hypnosis happens respectfully to everyone's benefit and satisfaction.
As you are watching, what can you notice as the earliest sign of hypnosis developing?
If you're listening [make sure not while driving!!!] what do you notice in yourself?

Hi rob, i think it starts as soon as you invite her to recall 50secs in and goes "inside".. to recall previous experience.. as you say.. and .. off we go..
As I watched you with her, my memory was drawn to videos of Milton Erickson that I have seen. You exhibited that same naturalness that allows your client to feel safe and just go with your words. I thought this video was very helpful as a reminder to just talk with the client, and to use what she gives you.
Thanks Lee. One of Erickson's key principles was "accept and utilise". This approach is so respectful of each individual's uniqueness.
Hi Rob, it seems that no matter the age or the issue the client has it within themselves to find a way, perhaps their way, to find what is missing by engaging with what they like.
Hi Brian, that's my experience - always.
